Mesaio Karlovasi

The Plaster Casting Workshop is located in Mesaio Karlovasi on the island of Samos and operates as a branch of Culture and Prosperity s.c.e.  The Plaster Casting Workshop is a fully equipped space which consists of two points. The exhibition space which is used for the theoretical part of the educational program and the workshop which has a comprehensive toolkit and can support the practical training. The exhibition area of the Plaster Casting Workshop in Samos has a wide variety of exhibits and has been specially prepared for the needs of knowledge transfer, through example, as well as the explanation of the results obtained from the processing and processing of plaster. The classroom has a capacity of 13 people and has a telephone, Internet, Air condition, screen for presentation of visual educational material and workbenches. Access is from the ground floor and can be easily visited by wheelchair. Disembarking people from vehicles can be done right outside the building.

45 years of history and experience in the processing and manufacture of gypsum objects come to life through a specially designed training course based on educational standards, in order to result in the acquisition of knowledge through experiential experience and alternative approach in the context of Lifelong Learning.

The aim is for the participants to create a working relationship with the trainers, through the transmission of information and the transfer of knowledge, in order to upgrade their educational knowledge, and to be properly prepared to walk the "Path of the Gypsum Craftsman".

The educational program of the Plaster Casting Workshop focuses on gaining experiential experience on the use and processing of gypsum. The process of transmitting information consists of the theoretical and practical part in order to have complete learning outcomes.

  • Intensive training seminars.

 

The duration of the fast-paced courses for adult classes for the five (5) sessions is 90 minutes. The training program has five (5) levels of difficulty. It has been designed in such a way that participants, through an evolutionary process, upgrade their knowledge of gypsum processing. Participants also reserve the right to choose whether to participate in all difficulty levels.

 

  • Training seminars for adults.

 

Adult training seminars are aimed at people aged 18 and over. They take place four (4) times a month on an annual basis. The duration of the seminars is 60 minutes.

 

  • Training seminars for kids

 

The educational seminars of the children's classes are addressed to people aged 8 and over. They take place four (4) times a month on an annual basis. The duration of the seminars is 60 minutes.

 

  • Summer classes for kindergarten.

 

Summer kindergarten classes are specially adapted educational courses with mandatory parent presence aimed at sensory creative activities. It concerns ages from four (4) to six (6) years old and has a duration of 60 minutes.

As mentioned above, the aim of the theoretical and practical part of the training program is for participants to acquire the basic knowledge so as to be able to:

  • Know all stages during the preparatory process.
  • To experience the sense of creativity of the Gypsum Craftsman.
  • To acquire the basic knowledge of plaster processing.
  • To externalize their creativity.
  • Create their own copy from gypsum.

Given the many years of experience of Culture and Prosperity s.c.e., the human resources that will be employed, the duration of the training program, the choice of an evolutionary step with strict criteria, the theme, the implementation process of the project so as to provide the excellent transfer of knowledge, the right of access to citizens to knowledge and information regarding the processing of Gypsum, etc., We believe that according to the proposed action, throughout its duration, citizens and visitors will be able to know per target group, the following:

  • The History of Gypsum.
  • The usefulness of the material in Greek Architecture.
  • The process of processing gypsum.
  • The stages of creating an object from gypsum.

The Plaster Casting Workshop, as a continuation of the family tradition, takes over to continue the journey in the use and processing of Gypsum .

Culture and Prosperity sce, in the context of participation in the International Festival "In the footsteps of Pythagoras" in Marathokampos, Municipality of Western Samos, chooses to adapt the presentation of the educational program of the Plaster Casting Workshop in an outdoor area, thus giving the opportunity to the attendees to get acquainted with the processing and construction of objects using the material of Gypsum.
 
The aim of Culture and Prosperity is for the visitor to acquire the first contact with plaster, to acquire the necessary knowledge about the particularities of the material and to experience the process of processing and producing objects. At the same time, the visitor is " transported " to the position of the Plasterer and the object he created belongs to him. In addition, the object is given to adorn the personal or professional space of the participant in order to keep alive his memory regarding his participation in the Plaster Casting Workshop.
